Archive for April, 2018

We had a very successful active week packed with lots of fun and games. Thankfully the weather was on our side all week and the rain stayed away for the activities.

On Monday, each classroom completed a lesson on jiving. A big thank you to Craig Lovett for providing the lessons. See photos below!

On Tuesday, we completed skipping.

Susan Doorley from An Taisce came to the school on Wednesday and provided the children with an informative scooter safety workshop. Thank you Susan!

Thank you also to Brian Reilly for completing basketball lessons on Thursday.

We finished off the week with game stations on Friday. Mr.McPhilips also organised a dodgeball tournament which ran throughout the week with the finals being held on Friday. A big thank you to Mr.McPhilips for organising the tournament and well done to our dodgeball team winners. The Junior team and the Senior team were presented with prizes. Each child in the school also received an active certificate for taking part during the week! Well done everyone! Enjoy your well deserved rest!!

County Finals Day

Our group-winning team from the previous FAI tournament were in action again today in the county finals. Everyone put in great performances and there were plenty of skills on show. Our team won two games out of three in the league but unfortunately lost out on a place in the final by goal difference. Well done to everyone who took part in both tournaments and special thanks to Graham Mills for his support at the event.

FAI Soccer Blitz

On Tuesday some of the boys and girls in 5th and 6th class competed in the FAI soccer blitz in Cootehill. We had two teams entered in what was a very competitive tournament. Both of our teams performed very well with one of them qualifying for the county finals on April 25th. Everyone enjoyed the day and there were numerous excellent performances on both teams. Many thanks to Graham Mills for helping out on the day.

Annual Clothes Collection

Welcome back for the final school term. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Easter break. Hopefully we have left winter firmly behind us and can look forward to better weather!

If you managed to do a spring clean over the holidays and have some bags of clothes/shoes/bed linen/handbags/shoes/towels etc to get rid of, please drop them into school any day this week. If you have a lot of bags please come into Bridget in the office and she will open the main gate so that you can drive up to the door, to save carrying them across the yard!

The bags will be collected early on Monday 16th April.

The proceeds will be divided between Ms Doughty’s fund-raising to teach in Uganda for 3 weeks during August and resources for the school’s sensory garden/green schools/active-health promoting school initiative.

Many thanks for your support.
