How to encourage your child to try their best!

We hear a lot about praising children and encouraging them to do their best. According to the latest research, while it is very important to praise children, the type of praise we give can determine whether they will be motivated to try harder or to give up!

What we should praise children for:
effort
strategies
progress
hard work
persistence
rising to a challenge
learning from a mistake
But we should not praise for:
being smart
born gifted
talent
fixed abilities
not making mistakes
Try saying:
“You tried very hard” ” you used a good strategy!” or
“What a creative way to solve that problem.” “You haven’t got it yet, but you’ll get there.”

The poster below gives some interesting tips on how to develop what researchers call a “Growth Mindset” in children.
