Health Promoting and Active School Flag Raising Celebration

Thank you to everyone who attended our Health Promoting & Active School Flag Raising Celebration. (Photos and slideshow below)

It began at 1pm with a talk for parents on Mental Health by Ita Tobin from Mental Health Ireland. This was be followed by a brief outline by Mrs Hoban on the various steps in applying for and achieving HPS(Health Promoting School) status. We presented the children with their swimming certificates before proceeding outside where Jennifer Traynor (HSE Health Promoting Offficer)  raised the flag..thankfully the weather was kind to us! Some members of The PA prepared delicious healthy fruit snacks for afterwards. Thank you for all your creative work! See the photos below that illustrate this creativity!!

Thank you also to Mrs Hoban, Ms Doughty and the rest of the staff for all their hard work and dedication in achieving HPS status.

Jasmine, in 6th class, wrote a letter to Lidl in Virginia recently, as part of a class letter writing project, telling them how much she enjoyed shopping in their store with her mum because of the delicious smells from their in-store bakery. Patrick and Georgina from Lidl, Virginia, arrived down to school today with a box full of fruit and a box full of delicious goodies from their in-store bakery for the children to enjoy. Thank you Lidl!

Enjoy the photo presentation below highlighting all the activities the children were involved in, in gaining HPS ststus.

We are learning about ‘Autumn’ in the Infant room. We created leaf prints and paper plate pumpkins. We also listened to the story ‘The Gruffalo’ and set up a Gruffalo’s forest in our role-play area.

Christmas Raffle

The Christmas Raffle is a major fundraiser for the Parents’ Association. We are always lucky to receive very generous donations from local businesses. If you know anyone who would be interested in sponsoring a prize in this year’s raffle could you please let anyone on the committee know by midterm so the prize can be advertised on the cards.
Many thanks

The Doctor

The Infants have finished the theme of the doctor. Over the past 3 weeks, the Infants have worked in a pretend doctor’s surgery, explored their 5 senses, sang the rhyme ‘Miss Polly had a dolly’ and listened to the story of ‘Daisy the Doctor.’ We made doctor’s kits and X-ray handprints. They also learnt the names of the body parts ‘as Gaeilge’ (through Irish). Our next theme for our Aistear play sessions is ‘Autumn.’
