Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you all had a good summer. For those of you who are new to Billis School we offer a particular warm welcome.  We hope your child will be happy here and benefit from their experience in Billis.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our cleaner, Rita, and our caretaker, Mick, for having the school looking so well for our return.

Here are a few important points for you to note for the coming year:

  • School officially opens at 9:10am.   (Children who do not travel by bus should not come to school before this time.)
  • School finishes at 2:50pm for Senior Infants – 6th Class
  • School finishes at 1:50pm for Junior Infants (From Monday 21st . It finishes at 12:30pm up to and including Friday 18th Sept)
  • Please be prompt in picking up your child/children at the correct time.
  • If your child’s arrangements for travelling home changes in any way you must inform the school in advance to avoid confusion and mistakes as this can be very upsetting for the children. (A note in their homework diary/tell the teacher in person or ring the school on 049 8544653. Leave a message if no one answers). The teacher cannot accept this information from a child as children often relay the information incorrectly.
  • If you are collecting your child early or dropping them into school late for any reason you must sign them in or out using the sheet in the entrance hall, in front of Bridget’s office.
  • We have a Healthy Lunch Policy in Billis. Details of it are in your child’s homework diary (1st – 6th class)in the school handbook and can also be found on our website at billisns.com (Click on the School Policies tab at the top of the page)
  • We will be using the school website to communicate with you and to keep you up-to-date with what’s happening in Billis on a regular basis so please visit it regularly.
  • Please check your child’s bag/homework diary daily for notes etc. We would really appreciate prompt return of notes, permission slips etc as it wastes valuable teaching time if the teacher has to constantly go searching for these.
  • If sending in money to school, for whatever reason, we ask that you try not to send in a lot of loose change. It wastes a lot of Bridget’s time counting and sorting it and the banks no longer accept change.

Thank you, in anticipation of your support and cooperation for the school year ahead.

K Devine

Teddy Bears’ Picnic

The Infants enjoyed a Teddy Bear’s Picnic last Thursday while the other classes were swimming.  Thankfully the sun shone and all the teddies and their owners enjoyed a ‘Show & Tell’ session in the classroom before going outside to enjoy their picnic!

Senior Tour June 2015

On Tuesday 16th June the pupils from 3rd to 6th class and the teachers all headed off on their school tour to Newgrange and Funtasia Waterpark in Drogheda.

It was ideal weather and an enjoyable day was had by all.

At Newgrange:

Feeding time at the zoo at Funtasia Waterpark!!

Newgrange Falconry:

We all got to hold the owls and pet them.  Some of us got to hold the falcon! I don`t know who was more scared, the falcon or Mrs Devine!

National Bike Week June 2015

As part of National Bike Week pupils from 4th and 5th class took part in a bike safety and training course on Thursday 11th June,  which was funded through Cavan Sports Partnership.   The pupils brought their bikes to school and enjoyed learning lots about bike safety and how to look after their bikes etc.

A big thank you to Jason, Peter and Philip from Cúchulainn Cycling Club, in Dundalk,  who came along to facilitate the day.

Junior Tour June 2015

Last Thursday, 11th  June, the children from Infants, First and Second class went on their school tour to Lough Crew Gardens.  It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone enjoyed themselves.

A big thank you to our helpers who came with us on the day, without them the tour couldn`t have happened: Denise, Shannon, Christiaan, Ann, Bridget, Linda, Jason and Gráinne.
