For our theme on ‘Re-birth in Spring’, Mrs. Snell and baby Joshua visited our classroom in March. We learned how to care, bathe, feed and comfort a baby. We even learned how to change a nappy!

Bernard Joyce from the Heritage Council in Mayo visited our school this week.

He showed us how to listen to sounds in nature using “deer ears” and how to use “owl ears” to spot things in our natural environment.

Lámh Phrase of the week

Lámh is a manual sign system used by children and adults with intellectual disability and communication needs in Ireland. Lámh signs are used to support communication.  One of our pupils relies on Lámh to communicate.  We would like this pupil to be able to communicate with as many people as possible.  Communication is a two-way activity therefore we need as many people in the school community as possible to be able to use Lámh, even if only at a basic level.

To this end, we will be learning a Lámh phrase every week.  The phrase will be displayed around the school and a video of the phrase will also be posted here each week so that you can practice the signs for the phrase at home.  Thank you to Sylvia for making the videos for us.
