Special Olympics/Cheerios Fundraising

A big thank you to all parents and children for supporting our fund raising in aid of Special Olympics and Cheerios Childline.  We raised a total of €267 which we will divide evenly between the two charities.

Everyone had a great day, the costumes were fantastic.  We had everyone from sporting heroes to farmers at school! The children also enjoyed a bowl of cheerios at break time! A big thank you to the teachers too for their help.

Maths Week 11th-19th October

As part of Maths week, 3rd and 4th class created a Maths Trail for the Infants. Each child from 3rd and 4th class was paired with an infant child. They did a great job guiding and teaching the infants about Maths in the playground! Have a look at some of the photos and sample questions that were captured during the hunt!

Fundraising for Charity

This year, we are supporting Special Olympics Ireland’s Superhero Day Campaign and Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together.
On Friday 24th October we are asking that all children come to school dressed as their favourite superhero (princess, comic book hero, or sports star). We will provide a bowl of Cheerio’s breakfast cereal to each child that day. In return we are asking that you make a donation to these worthy charities. (We suggest €3 per child)
All monies donated will go towards supporting both Special Olympics athletes, allowing them to realise their dreams, and Childline. Childline is 95% funded by the public so your support is invaluable. The Childline phone service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Childline receives hundreds of thousands of calls every year. These are answered by volunteers and staff who are trained to listen and understand young people. Young people under the age of 18 contact the service with a wide range of reasons such as mental health issues, bullying, sexuality discussions, family worries or for a well needed chat.
Thank You for your support!

Aistear

Our new theme this month for our Aistear Integrated Play Session is ‘Autumn.’  We set up our own campsite in the classroom for Drama. At the creative station, we used leaves to create hedgehogs. Discuss the seasons at home with your child and talk about the characteristics associated with Autumn!

Important Reminders for Parents/Guardians

  • One of the ways in which we communicate with you as Parents/Guardians is through notes sent home via your child.  It is important that you read these notes and, if necessary, sign and return them to school promptly.  It is very time consuming for teachers and our secretary to have to constantly remind children to bring in these notes as well as being unfair to the children who often feel at fault if notes are not returned.
  • Please check your child’s homework daily (Mon -Thurs) and sign it.
  • Please ensure that your child is in school before 9:30am each day as teaching begins at 9:30am sharp and the external doors of the school are locked at this time.
  • If making appointments for your child, (dentist, optician, doctor etc) please try to make them outside of school hours, if at all possible.
  • We have some unclaimed/unnamed school jumpers.  If you are missing a jumper please call to the school.
  • Please make appointments for your child outside of school hours in as far as possible.
  • If anyone other than you as parent/guardian is collecting your child from school, you must let the class teacher know in advance. (In emergencies, phone the school. Leave a message if no-one answers.) Otherwise, the teacher cannot allow your child to leave the school premises.
  • Please ensure that we have the correct phone numbers and address for you.  It is very important that we can contact parents/guardians or an assigned emergency contact person.
